Nalina Burgos, a student in the Post-Master’s Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program, works as a registered nurse in Arizona, but right now her eyes are on the prize — the pitcher’s mound at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Burgos was nominated by supervisors to throw at the first pitch at the Dodgers’ game on Friday, Sept. 22. The nomination cited her quick thinking in high-stress situations, her service as a critical care nurse during the COVID pandemic and her emotional support of both patients and their family members.
During her work with oncology and ICU patients, Burgos realized the importance of mental health in all nursing fields. She searched online for a PMHNP program and hit a home run with Wilkes.
“It would be an honor to throw the first pitch on Nurses Night and be able to represent us all, because all nurses deserve appreciation,” says Burgos.
Voting closes TODAY, Thursday, Sept. 7. Help a Colonel take the field with your vote for Nalina Burgos.
