Fulbright Grants for Master’s Degree Students

Creative Writers, Teachers of ESL, and Instructional Leaders: Is it time to take the next step? Are you ready for a new adventure — and the experience of a lifetime? Why not apply for a Fulbright grant to spend a year abroad? The 2025-26 application cycle is now open. Master’s degree students with backgrounds in English, Education, and Creative Writing are strongly encouraged to apply!

The U.S. Fulbright Student Program offers incredible opportunities for early career professionals of any age to jumpstart their careers by teaching English abroad for one academic year – all expenses paid. As a Fulbright ETA (English Teaching Assistant) you would be assisting the local English teacher–not in charge of the ESL program itself. In fact, you do not need ESL training or teaching experience, although that would be a plus. Imagine being able to sit down and write, vlog, or blog after work immersed in a new culture!

Study/Research grants are also available to students who design their own projects, such as a writing a novel or conducting a research project. These grantees typically work with advisers at foreign universities or other institutes of higher education in approximately 140 countries.

If you are ready for that next step, start your application by visiting https://us.fulbrightonline.org and clicking “Fulbright Online Application” under the Applicants dropdown. Wilkes Campus Deadline: September 1, 2024; National Deadline: October 8, 2024.

*Fulbright is funded by the U.S. Department of State; all grantees are expected to serve as cultural ambassadors of the U.S. while abroad. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for the U.S. Student Program.
