Cold Weather Safety + Slips/Trips/Falls Prevention – “Walk Like a Penguin”

As a reminder, we are currently in a cold weather advisory. Temperatures should go back up tomorrow. Until then, wind chills are expected to be around zero degrees and temperatures will have highs in the teens with lows in the single digits*.

Our ice-melting products are having a limited impact due to the low temperatures. Because of this, we encourage all to “penguin walk” aka waddle and navigate around campus slowly and cautiously. For more information on how to walk on ice and prevent slips, visit here.

We urge the campus community to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from the cold and conserve energy when applicable. When preparing to go outside, it is recommended to dress in layers and cover exposed skin as much as possible by wearing gloves, scarves, hats, face masks, etc. Continue to monitor local weather reports and stay warm. Remember: To report ice, snow, spills and other hazardous walking conditions on campus, dial (570) 408-2FIX or email 2fix@wilkes.edu. The campus community’s safety is our top priority.
