Teaching with Technology Wednesdays Week 6 – July 23rd

You can still join us for Week 6 of TWT! The theme of the day focuses on AI in education. Here’s our upcoming sessions:

  • 9:30 – 10:45 AM: Encounters with AI in Graduate Student Writing (75 minutes) – Panelists: Stephanie Wasmanski, David Hicks, Woojun Lee, Gina Harrison, facilitated by Kristine Pruett

This panel of graduate faculty will share their experiences navigating student use of artificial intelligence in academic writing. Panelists will reflect on lessons learned over the past year, including how the presence—or absence—of departmental policies has shaped their responses to AI use. We’ll also consider the role AI plays in the development of graduate-level writing skills: When does it help? When does it hinder? (All are welcome to join)

  • 11:00 – 11:45 AM: Teaching in the Age of AI: Tools and Strategies for Educators – Woojun Lee

This presentation will explore practical tools and strategies for educators to effectively integrate AI into their classrooms, empowering students and transforming the learning experience.

  • 12:00 – 1:30 PM: Empowering Undergraduate Students’ Critical Capacities against the False Promises of AI (90 min) – Panelists: Tom Hamill & Sean Kelly

This panel will interrogate AI as an instructional tool by highlighting process-orientated pedagogies that privilege (rather than elide) the independent struggles with difficulty that are essential to transformative growth in the learning process. We will address the ways in which over-reliance on AI leads to an outsourcing and eventually a forfeiture of intellectual and critical skills & capacity that coursework is meant to develop and strengthen.

We hope you can join us!
