Library Holds Digitized Civil War Diary

Ryan Mercer, a senior history major with minors in sociology and women’s and gender studies, processed and transcribed the Civil War diary of Alfred W. Shollenberger.

The diary, written in 1864, is a glimpse into Shollenberger’s work as an engineer during the Civil War.

After graduation, Mercer hopes to find a job in his field, attend graduate school and travel extensively.

Feel free to check out the finding aid, the digitized diary and the original and edited transcripts links in Mercer’s blog post.
