Campus to Host Suicide Prevention Candlelight Vigil on Sept. 26

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, Wilkes students, faculty and staff are invited to a candlelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, on the Fenner Quadrangle.

Participants will gather at the steps of the Farley Library for remarks from President Cant and Jim Tkach, founder of the Bo Tkach Foundation and father of Wilkes alumnus and football player Travis “Bo” Tkach ’07.  Months after graduating from Wilkes, Bo tragically took his own life.  The Bo Tkach Foundation was created in his memory with the goal of creating awareness for mental health issues and providing funding for youth athletic programs and scholarships.

In addition to the vigil, the Wilkes Psychology Club will sell stickers and t-shirts to benefit suicide prevention efforts.  Blue and purple flags have also been placed around campus to serve as a reminder of the importance of this month.

The candlelight vigil will take place inside the McHale Athletic Center in the case of inclement weather.
