You’re Invited to a Memorial Concert Honoring Professor Emeritus Steven Thomas

A memorial concert honoring one of Wilkes University’s beloved music professors will be held this spring. Musical remembrances for Professor Emeritus Steven Thomas will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 35 Sout Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre.

The concert is a collaborative effort featuring the talents of the Arcadia Chorale, Lyric Consort, Arcadia Festival Players and Wilkes Division of Performing Arts. Highlights include a culminating performance of Wilkes students and alumni with members of these organizations featuring music that was meaningful to Dr. Thomas.

A passionate artist and cherished colleague, Dr. Thomas passed away from cancer on July 12, 2020. A public memorial was not held due to the global pandemic. Finally, this May, we hope you will join our voices in song. We are inviting alumni to join the combined choirs to sing two pieces: “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” (Lutkin) and “Ride the Chariot” (arr. Smith). Dr. Thomas loved his students over the many years he spent at Wilkes and this concert will pay tribute to the legacy he has left behind.

The public is invited to attend and will be required to follow St. Stephen’s protocols for masking and social distancing. Alumni who would like to sing the two pieces should arrive at St. Stephen’s at 3:15 p.m. for a combined rehearsal. All singers must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask per the venue’s protocols.

If you would like to attend or perform, please register online.
