The Honorary Degree Committee Invites Nominations for Candidates for Wilkes University Honorary Degrees

Persons selected to receive honorary degrees may come from a variety of fields, such as the arts, sciences, humanities, public service, health care, athletics, law or business.  The University will recognize individuals who have attained achievements of extraordinary and lasting distinction.  In all cases they should have a demonstrated record of accomplishment consistent with the ideals of the University. When possible, the University seeks to identify native Pennsylvanians for the recognition they have brought, or contributions they have made, to the Commonwealth.

Honorary degrees shall not be awarded to members of the University faculty, staff, or trustees so long as the relationship exists.

Wilkes community members are invited to nominate honorary degree candidates by sending a letter to Dr. Mark Allen, Interim Vice President of Student Affairs (mark.allen@wilkes.edu) by February 13, 2023. Nominees not selected may be held for consideration at a future date.  The list of those who have received honorary degrees from Wilkes is available online and can be accessed by clicking here

The University may confer honorary degrees at any of its commencement ceremonies, and in unusual circumstances, at other appropriate academic functions.  Recipients of honorary degrees must accept the degree in person; however, honorary degrees may be awarded posthumously.
