IT has begun their initiative to change Wilkes alumni email accounts from firstname.lastname@wilkes.edu to firstname.lastname@alumni.wilkes.edu. These new email accounts will launch on June 1, 2023.
Whether or not alumni opt in to the new email, their existing Wilkes email accounts will be disabled and eventually deleted. If they do not forward/transfer/export/download emails, attachments, files, photos, etc., these items will be deleted.
In the past two weeks, we have communicated two announcements to all alumni to provide updates, resources, and what to expect during this transition.
Current faculty and staff will not be affected by this change. However, in your potential conversations with students on the verge of graduation, we want you to be aware of the following:
• Students about to graduate will be provided a three-month grace period to allow for the transition and forwarding of their emails, attachments, and files from their existing Wilkes email account to their new Wilkes alumni email account (if they opt in). IT will be reaching out to these students prior to graduation to prepare them for this process.
• Alumni who are going back to grad school can keep their emails the same IF they can show proof of application to programs at Wilkes prior to the conversion (June 1, 2023).
The need for this change is to lessen the strain and eliminate issues to our servers due to the overload of Wilkes email accounts and space in the Google drive. Additionally, these new emails will distinguish alumni and provide more visible alumni information, i.e., events, resources, updates, and more.
We will continue to communicate with our alumni and students to prepare for this change.
