You may have seen signs in campus buildings prohibiting the use of latex products (pictured). Please adhere to the policy for those in the Wilkes community with latex allergies.
Latex allergy affects up to 6% of the U.S. population. Some reactions are mild, resulting in hives, skin redness and itching, and respiratory problems. Other reactions can turn serious and even lead to a life-threatening allergic reaction, or anaphylaxis.
Due to the severity of latex allergies, please refrain from using latex products—which can include:
- latex gloves
- rubber bands
- balloons
- Band-Aids
- elastic bands
- spandex
- mouse pads
