Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine offers an amazing opportunity for current sophomore students (rising juniors) who self-identify as underrepresented in medicine to participate in a program that will increase their competitiveness for medical school. Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.” This lens currently includes students who identify as African Americans and/or Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islander, and mainland Puerto Rican.
This program is completely free of charge and some of the components of this opportunity are listed below:
- An 8-week research program (June 5th – July 28th)
- Virtual from 9 am -3 pm daily
- A $2,500 stipend
- 300 hours of research
- Learn about specific topics in health.
- Medical School planning seminars with admissions directors
- Mentorships from medical students
- MCAT Training
- An opportunity to be published
- End of Summer Poster Presentation
