Nursing – Need for “Standardized Patients” for Simulation (UPDATE for needs).

Hello!  This is a follow-up message to a great need on campus in support of our students!

This month in Stark Learning Center at the CNSC (bottom floor) we in Nursing are conducting an active learning “simulation” activity on several days for the junior level nursing students in NSG 213 (mental health nursing).  I am seeking volunteers from the campus community to help in playing the role of a “standardized patient” (SP) for the activity.  It takes a village to support good learning activities like this!  Your interest and support in helping with this activity would be greatly appreciated!

The simulations would take place on 4 different days, October 18, 20, 25, and 27 in a range of 9 AM to 12 Noon for 3 days BUT (a big change from past messages) is we needed to modify the time for Wednesday October 25 TO afternoon into evening (3 PM to 6 PM for the total time block of volunteers needed). NOTE  in volunteers would only need to be present part of the time in smaller blocks and typically only half the block referred to in the Google Form, volunteer numbers dependent – I can clarify this with a quick reach out to me).  We will have scripts (basic) for approximating an SP role (context for the nature of their mental health issue with associated signs and symptoms) with some “coaching” in the role ahead (brief meeting – virtual or live).  The total commitment is still just a few hours at best – and with some payback in the form of “treats” (nutritious or fun food)!

Please respond to the Google Form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScEmKDdOoAdvGv_pX3jZ4YQfA2u0agMogqQc_S68STekoxQAw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Also, please email or call me (todd.hastings@wilkes.edu) or -4090) and let me know of any questions, in addition to your interest and availability as soon as you can! And if you know anyone that might be interested in helping this year or in the future,  please share the link and let me know.

Thank you for considering my request for volunteers!

Best to all!
