Want to Learn More about Underrepresentation in Science?

Sign up for a 1 credit seminar course in Spring 2024! Underrepresentation in Science is a new seminar course being run as CHM 298 (CRN 10140) on Mondays at 2pm and is open to all majors. This course is a seminar reviewing historical exclusion of certain groups in the scientific field and how to improve inclusiveness moving forward. Students will read and discuss literature examining the data, history, and current status of race, gender, and people with disabilities in STEM fields. Students will be able to recognize underrepresented populations in science and the historical context of their exclusion from the scientific field. Data will be presented and analyzed to demonstrate current biases in science. Methods of promoting inclusion and diversifying science will also be discussed. If you have any questions, please reach out to Dr. Lauren Rossiter (lauren.rossiter@wilkes.edu).
