The Wilkes University English Department, as part of its Allan Hamilton Dickson Spring Writers Series, will host guest artist and Wilkes alum Leah Vernon for two writing workshops and a reading from her new memoir.
Vernon will visit the ENG 303 Advanced Fiction Workshop in Kirby 103 from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, and the Creative Writing Workshop in Kirby 103 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. These workshops are open to Wilkes students, faculty and staff.
Vernon will read from her newest work at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, in the Kirby Hall Salon. The reading, followed by a book signing, is free and open to the public.
Also known as Leah V, the author earned her master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Wilkes University. She tells her story in the memoir Unashamed: Musings of a Fat, Black Muslim and explores futuristic fiction in her dystopian novels The Union and The Dissent.
