Chambers: DEI Council Training: Discussion on Banned Books

Can you leave this up until May 28th

The Wyoming Valley Chamber DEI council invites you to a zoom training:

Description

All are welcome to join the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council for a Book Ban training with Alyssa Coleman (she/her).

Within the last three years, book challenges in the United States have gone from an isolated, regional occurrence to a nation-wide movement effecting thousands of communities. In this discussion, we will aim to learn about the nature of these book bans: why they are happening, what harm these actions cause and how you, as a community member, can make your voices heard.

Alyssa Coleman (she/her) is the Digital Services Librarian at Luzerne County Community College. She has a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Biology and Creative Writing from Susquehanna University and a Masters of Information and Library Science (MILS) from Rutgers University. She is also the vice-chair of the Pennsylvania Library Association (PALA)’s Northeast Chapter and had the honor of winning the PALA New Librarian of the Year award in 2023. When not at the library, you can find her reading a book, hiking at a local state park, or taking photos of her roommate’s cat, Mina.

This training will be held via Zoom on Monday, June 3rd, 2024 After registering, you will receive the Zoom link to join the discussion.
