P4 students in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Geisinger is excited to announce the launch of a groundbreaking pharmacy residency program in Specialty (ambulatory) Practice with a focus on cannabis policy and research. This innovative two-year program, a collaboration between Geisinger Pharmacy, the Center for Pharmacy Innovation and Outcomes (CPIO), and Geisinger College of Health Sciences, is the first of its kind.

The residency is designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to specialty pharmacy practice in ambulatory care clinics where medical marijuana may be used by patients as a therapeutic option. Residents will learn how to apply evidenced-based practice to the care of patients with serious medical conditions, possibly treated with medical marijuana. They will learn how to apply pharmacy care in an integrated health system and explore the intersection between allopathic and alternative care. Patient care and use of marijuana as part of an integrative care strategy will be explored with limits in year one followed by more advanced initiatives in year two. Our goal is to prepare pharmacists for diverse roles in academia, research, industry, advocacy, and clinical practice, especially in environments where medical marijuana is part of the conversation. In areas where evidence-based medical marijuana practice is still developing, this program aims to equip pharmacists with the skills needed to drive practice-based advancements.

We invite interested P4 students to learn more about this exciting opportunity by joining our informational webinar on Tuesday, January 14, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Details to join the webinar are provided below.
