Wilkes University Archives: 1898-1900 Brown’s Pharmacy ledger transcription is now available online!

Wilkes University Archives is excited to announce that thanks to Nathaniel Edwards and Abbey Zim, Pharmacy graduate students, the Pharmacy ledger from Brown’s Pharmacy has been transcribed in full. This pharmacy ledger featuring pharmacy prescriptions from 1898-1900 has taken Nate and Abbey 2 years to transcribe.

The John Coutros collection of Brown’s pharmacy artifacts was donated in 2019 to Wilkes University by John Coutros, the son-in-law of the daughter of George Brown of Brown’s pharmacy in Scranton. The collection is not fully processed yet, however, the pharmacy ledger has been transcribed in full. The collection and pharmacy ledger transcription can be found here on archivesspace.

Nate and Abbey wrote a blog post highlighting the history of the Browns family legacy in Scranton and some of the more interesting scripts they came across while transcribing the ledger. Check it out!
