Thesis Defense Announcement
Joseph Marino, M.S. in Bioengineering
Friday, May 2, 2025 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | SLC Room 224
Wilkes University’s Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering proudly announces the master’s thesis defense of Joseph Marino, a candidate for the Master of Science in Bioengineering. His thesis, titled “Automated Segmentation and Classification of Breast Ultrasound Images,” presents an advanced deep learning approach to improving the diagnostic process for breast cancer. The study integrates U-Net architectures and VGG16 with Random Forest classifiers to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of ultrasound image analysis.
This work represents a significant contribution at the intersection of biomedical engineering and artificial intelligence, with implications for more precise and accessible cancer diagnostics.
