Readers and Performers Needed!

READERS AND PERFORMERS NEEDED!

Lend your voice to Under the Baobab Tree – A Griot Celebration!

Africana Studies is calling on students to sign up as readers and performers for our April 20 celebration of the griot tradition at the Sordoni Art Gallery. In the spirit of West African and diaspora’s oral traditions, we invite you to share your poetry, tell a tale, perform a song or hymn, read a folktale, deliver a spoken word piece, share a family story or life lesson, do a step routine, try your hand at freestyle verse, or simply come, eat, and listen.
Alternatively, you sign up as a reader. Choose a poem or folktale (or AFS can provide one) to read at the event.
Each reading is brief, but the cumulative effect is powerful: many voices carrying forward stories that have traveled across oceans and generations.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a first-time reader, your participation helps build the community experience that is at the heart of the griot tradition.

Sign up today! Scan the QR Code or visit https://forms.gle/tFbYzRQ4EMmRtJ748.

All performers and readers will receive an AFS @ Wilkes T-shirt!
