The Wilkes University English Department will open the Allan Hamilton Dickson Spring Writers Series with author Alison Bechdel at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27<\/strong>, in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bechdel is the creator of The Secret to Superhuman Strength<\/em>, Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama<\/em>, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic <\/em>and Dykes to Watch Out For<\/em>. She has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a MacArthur Genius Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun Home<\/em>, her first graphic novel, was named a 2006 Best Book of the Year by TIME and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The Broadway musical adaption of\u00a0Fun Home<\/em>\u00a0won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening with Alison Bechdel will include a reading and book signing. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is strongly suggested. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
