{"id":24793,"date":"2025-06-24T09:22:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T13:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.wilkes.edu\/?p=24793"},"modified":"2025-06-24T09:22:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T13:22:11","slug":"help-reduce-electric-demand-during-this-weeks-heatwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.wilkes.edu\/index.php\/2025\/06\/24\/help-reduce-electric-demand-during-this-weeks-heatwave\/","title":{"rendered":"Help Reduce Electric Demand During This Week\u2019s Heatwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University was notified this morning by our electric supplier that this week&#8217;s high temperatures are going to increase demand this week.<\/p>\n<p>PJM has now called for a mandatory emergency reduction.\u00a0 We need the campus community\u2019s help to reduce our energy usage at Wilkes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation and Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following actions need to take place on campus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Campus Support Services<\/strong>\u00a0will reduce physical plant mechanical loads (pumps, HVAC, etc.) without compromising the health and safety of personnel, physical plant assets or designated special requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Campus community<\/strong>\u00a0will take these actions:\n<ul>\n<li>Turn off all non-vital or unused equipment such as coffee pots, personal fans, lab equipment, radios, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off all lights in unoccupied rooms and reduce lighting where possible.<\/li>\n<li>Close window blinds or shades.<\/li>\n<li>Keep windows closed (opening the windows will allow heat and humidity into the building and increase the length of time for the building to cool once the air conditioning resumes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please remind your colleagues to take action.
