{"id":33561,"date":"2026-07-01T09:14:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T13:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.wilkes.edu\/?p=33561"},"modified":"2026-07-01T09:14:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T13:14:50","slug":"additional-steps-to-reduce-energy-consumption-during-heatwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.wilkes.edu\/index.php\/2026\/07\/01\/additional-steps-to-reduce-energy-consumption-during-heatwave\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional Steps to Reduce Energy Consumption During Heatwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To support the effort in reducing energy consumption across campus during this week&#8217;s heatwave, managers are asked to review the operational needs of their departments and, where business operations allow, approve remote work for staff on <b>Wednesday, July 1, and Thursday, July 2, 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For employees whose responsibilities require them to be on campus, please stay hydrated, take appropriate precautions during the extreme heat and help conserve energy whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the following energy conservation measures will remain in effect.<\/p>\n<p><b>Campus Support Services will:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce physical plant mechanical loads, including pumps and HVAC systems, while maintaining the health and safety of our campus community, protecting University facilities and supporting designated operational requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>All members of the campus community are asked to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn off nonessential or unused equipment, including coffee makers, personal fans, radios, lab equipment and other electronics.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms and reduce lighting where practical.<\/li>\n<li>Keep blinds and shades closed to minimize heat gain.<\/li>\n<li>Keep windows closed.
